In an interview on BBC Arabic TV Dr Walid Phares said "wait and see how the Iranians will seize the opportunity in Iraq. Now the Jihadists are grabbing the Sunni areas. Soon the Iranians will assist Maliki while the US Administration is watching powerless."

Phares said "we left Iraq abruptly to win an election. Now we are harvesting a catastrophe. "
