In an interview with FBC, Dr Walid Phares said "the Assad regime, Iran and Hezbollah are attempting to stop the US and its allies from setting up a safe zone in eastern Syria."

In an interview with FBC, Dr Walid Phares said "the Assad regime, Iran and Hezbollah are attempting to stop the US and its allies from setting up a safe zone in eastern Syria."

Phares added that "while Russia is present on the coast and protects the Assad regime, the latter is now sending units close to the US areas of operation and pro Iranian militias are rushing towards the borders with Iraq."
