The designation of the Brotherhood as a terror group in general was an announced Trump campaign agenda item. It was part of the goals of the Riyadh Summit in 2017. The implementation was slowed and marginalized for 2 years because of internal tensions in Washington.
As of this week, it looks like the Trump Administration is ready to push this file again. However, it is not an easy designation, and the implementation is not simple. The US will have to address the militarized components first and the networks that are funding them. It is a whole legal challenge, but the Ikhwan involvement in Jihadi activities is rich - that we know.
