Dr Walid Phares Op Ed in the Independent Arabiya daily "NATO fleets and navies in the Gulf and Iran's plans" argues that "while UK, French and other European naval assets may escort oil tankers in the Gulf, and not be integrated under the US Navy Command in the region, still if attacked by Iran, they will be assisted by American forces in the region. The only wild card is the possible Russian presence along the side of Iran's naval units"
