In an interview with Fox Business Channel Dr Walid Phares told Fox Business Channel: "Mexico summit between President Nieto and Presidential candidate Trump created a new strategic dynamic for 2017"
Phares, a foreign policy advisor to Trump told FBC that "we need to remember that this was a summit between a President of a country and a Presidential candidate in the US. It was an exchange of views for the future when a new Administration is in place." Phares said "the most important achievement by this meeting was to re frame the US Mexico relationship firstly focusing on the joint effort to remove a dangerous network creating chaos on the border. This would contribute to stop the flow of illegal immigrants going up and the flow of weapons going down. Each country will take care of its side of the border the way it see fit, but both countries can defeat the cartels and terror networks creating insecurity to both countries."
Phares said "we need to learn more about what is happening inside Mexico. The northern provinces are dealing with a constant urban violence. The southern border has also problems with penetration from central America, which can re destabilize the province of Chiappas. Surely the President of Mexico has political pressures on him from his opposition, but he cannot but look at a possible change of direction with a new Trump Administration in the US."
Phares said earlier that the Mexico summit created a new dynamic for Hemispheric joint strategies, but they can only debute after the election of Mr Trump."
