In an interview with Randy Tobler on 97.1 FM Talk, Dr Walid Phares said: "The cost of the reversal of the situation in the Middle East will be very high." Phares, the author of The Lost Spring, argued that the reasons of failures in Syria and Iraq is the Iran Deal. Tehran ignited Sunni uprisings in Iraq, and ISIS took advantage. The Iranian regime blocked the US from intervening strategically in Iraq and in Syria against ISIS, because it wanted influence for itself. For fear of losing the Iran deal, Washington failed itself in these two countries." Phares noted that 150 billion dollars transferred to Tehran would enable the latter to have enough military and intelligence power to block peace solutions in the region."

Tobler hoped the Administration, Congress and the candidates would be listening to Phares
advising on the Middle East. Tobler said "they should listen to you and we will be in a better place. Your voice should not be in the wilderness.."
