In an interview with Oren Dorel from USAToday, Dr Walid Phares said "the Jihadists, ISIS or al Qaeda, are trying to derail Tunisia's economy by striking at Tourism, but the country is turning against the Jihadists."

Phares argued that the Jihadists are focusing on toppling the secular Government of Tunisia, after a revolution had removed the Islamist Nahda party from power. "But Tunisia's civil society is increasingly moving against the Islamists. It's women, youth and NGOs are determined to stop the return of Islamic fundamentalism to power."
