During an Iftar (evening meal at the end of a fasting day during the month of Ramadan) organized by the Igur Foundation and BAUI University, Dr Walid Phares said "education is the key to reforming societies, and human behavior in general. And the latter's reform is the best path to a better world."
Phares, a professor of international relations and an author, explained the spiritual and historical meanings of Ramadan and the importance of Suhur (before sunrise) and Iftar (after sunset) community meals to the audience.
The event was attended by Congressional offices, advisors and former officials from the Treasury department, the Defense Department, diplomats, think tanks and community leaders.
Phares said "with all the extremism we see emerging and expanding in the Greater Middle East and Africa, a global effort within the Muslim world and backed by the international community to spread moderation via education, is the only long term and strategic path for peace and prosperity worldwide.
